CVPA goes to New York City
June 2018 brought an exciting trip to New York City for 36 of our
CVPA advanced dancers. What a great time we had!! Our dancers took
classes at Broadway Dance Center, at Steps on Broadway and were
accepted into the Alvin Ailey master class program thus giving them the
opportunity to study at the Ailey School under the guidance of Ailey
company members as well as faculty members. We also had our very own
master classes with alumni, Julian DeGuzman from Hello Dolly on
Broadway, Roddy Kennedy who is currently the dance captain from
Hamilton on Broadway, Demi Remick who is the featured tap dancer on
tour with PostModern Jukebox as well as hip-hop choreographer, Leslie
Feliciano. We went to Broadway shows and had our own talk-back with the
cast of Hello Dolly immediately following the show during which the
students were able to speak with cast members and ask questions. It was a
wonderful learning experience for them as well as their parents. Our
dancers also had an opportunity to see Misty Copland perform with the
American Ballet Theater at the Metropolitan Opera House. To say that we
were all in “awe” would be an understatement. In their down time after
classes, our dancers enjoyed sightseeing and shopping in NYC. And of
course, no dance trip would be complete without taking amazing dance
pictures – they took dance pictures everywhere. We were so surprised to
open an online New York newspaper during our first day of classes and
see our dancers in their headlines!! It was a fun week of learning and a
great way for our dancers to spend a special week together doing what
they love best, dancing!!!
